As the celebration of The Jazz Cafe’s 25th Anniversary comes to a close, we could not think of a better way than to bring back our longest running club night ‘Messin’ Around’ for one night only. Not only that but we are delighted that Snowboy & The Latin Section will be returning to the stage for their last party as they celebrate their 30th year.

MESSIN’ AROUND

When Messin’ Around club nights started at The Jazz Café in London in 1996, we thought that if we manage 4 weeks, we’d be the Dons! After all, it’s The Jazz Cafe – THE leading Jazz Club in the UK. 4 weeks passed, so did our next milestone 3 months, then Christmas, New Year and our 1st Anniversary. The rest is history, as they say, as Messin’ Around ran at The Jazz Cafe for 13 years, Released 5 compilations on Universal an Freestyle records, followed by a year at The 100 Club in London’s Oxford Street.

The concept of a Messin’ Around is still somewhat of a phenomenon: the idea of a Dance Group co-promoting and hosting a club session in this scene was and still is unique but why not, we thought, bringing together a combination of Music and Dance in a club session is surely a good idea; little did we know that Messin’ Around would become the longest running club night in The Jazz Cafe history and one of the longest running Saturday club nights in London – an accomplishment that we are incredibly proud of. Many of the JazzCotech Dancers have ‘grown up’ with Messin’ Around, The Jazz Cafe being the stage for many a Dance debut and thus the session will always be the spiritual home of JazzCotech Dancers.

On the Music front, Messin’ Around has always prided itself as being a session for those who appreciate good music and the Messin’ Around DJs have worked hard, delving into vaults and dusty warehouses around the world to ensure the quality is maintained. And our DJs have truly been inspirational, pushing Messin’ Around to new boundaries all the time. Overall and most importantly to us, however, is that the Messin’ Around sound is Dancefloor music that makes you want to get up and get down because the overriding factor of any Messin’ Around night is to have fun. Our objective to this day remains to put the fun back into clubbing and we feel we have achieved this by the unique collaboration of Clubbers, Dancers, DJs and Musicians, Promoters and Visual Artists. Messin’ Around appeals to almost anyone, which is reflected each and every time at the masses of bobbing and heaving people enjoying a good old getting down. Messin’ Around clubbers don’t go out to pose – they want to go out to have a good time, really appreciate the music and be entertained.

Snowboy and the Latin Section are Europe’s leading Afro-Cuban Jazz performers and recording artists, led by multi-percussionist Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove.

So much Latin music these days has got so watered down or slow. There’s too much pandering to these Salsa dance classes. But Snowboy is here to keep stoking the fire and ensure we make it exciting through their live performances and records the way Latin music is meant to be. Delivering the Mambo-influenced messages that Tito Puente did and Eddie Palmieri does. As a percussionist in many styles, Snowboy has performed or recorded with Lisa Stansfield, Imelda May, Amy Winehouse, Rod Temperton, Mark Ronson, Basia, Simply Red, Makoto Kuriya, Flaco Jimenez, Airto Moreira, Deodato, Mick Hucknall, Herman Olivera, Jon Lucien, James Taylor Quartet, Mica Paris, Incognito, Patti Austin, Big Boy Bloater and many many more.

2015 is Snowboy’s 30th anniversary, join us to celebrate this December.
